Arrest of Arjun Thakur
The Chandigarh Police arrested Arjun Thakur, a partner of De’Orra club, on Thursday after a complaint of extortion was filed by his business partner, Nikhil Chaudhary. Thakur was accused of demanding Rs 50,000 per month and threatening harm if his extortion demand was not met.
Background of the Complaint
The incident follows a recent explosion of a crude bomb near a bar-cum-lounge owned by rapper Badshah in the city, which is located just 30 meters from the De’Orra club. Chaudhary’s complaint alleged that Thakur was pressuring him for money and used threats to back up his demands.
Criminal Record and Investigations
Thakur, a resident of Sector 49 in Chandigarh, holds a 25% stake in the De’Orra club. He has a criminal record and has served time in jail in the past. He became notorious in 2018 following a shooting incident at a birthday party attended by Sahdev Salaria, an associate of former Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher. Authorities suspect that Thakur may be linked to criminal gangs, and this is being investigated further.
Gang Links and Blast Investigation
Police are also probing a potential connection between the explosion outside the De’Orra lounge and gangster links. CCTV footage revealed that an unidentified suspect threw a bomb at the lounge, causing a small explosion. Two suspects were seen fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. The blast damaged the club’s glass windows but resulted in no injuries.
Police also discovered a phone call allegedly made by Kali, an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, to a club partner shortly before the blast. The significance of this call is part of the ongoing investigation.
