Today, heavy rains are forecasted across Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), and northeastern Balochistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Weather experts caution that torrential downpours could trigger flash floods in AJK, northeastern Balochistan, and the hilly streams of Dera Ghazi Khan within the next few days. Urban areas in the Pothohar region and upper Punjab are also at risk of flooding.
Expect wind and thunderstorms in several regions including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Layyah, Bhakkar, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur. Severe rainfall may lead to landslides in Murree, Galyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, possibly disrupting traffic.
In Balochistan, most districts will experience hot and humid weather, but areas like Zhob, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Khuzdar, Awaran, and Lasbela could see heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Lahore enjoyed intermittent light and heavy rainfall on Sunday, bringing a pleasant drop in temperature of around 12 degrees Celsius. Monday is expected to bring a mix of sun and clouds with potential for light to heavy rain at night, as the monsoon system moves out of the Punjab capital.
Karachi and other parts of Sindh are advised by PMD’s Early Warning System to brace for thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning starting Monday, with rain expected until July 10. Coastal areas may receive isolated showers, while temperatures in Karachi are forecasted between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts for potential floods and glacier bursts in 11 districts. Residents are urged to stay vigilant as thunderstorms and heavy rains are predicted in mountainous areas, with the risk of dusty winds and flooding in low-lying regions exacerbated by rising temperatures and melting glaciers.
