In a major step toward promoting sustainable tourism and reducing pollution, Uttarakhand has announced the implementation of a green tax on vehicles entering the state. The tax will range from ₹20 to ₹80, depending on the type of vehicle, and will apply to both private and commercial vehicles from outside the state.
Key Features of the Green Tax Policy
- Who Pays the Tax?
- All non-local vehicles entering Uttarakhand, including three-wheelers, four-wheelers, medium, and heavy vehicles, will be subject to the tax.
- Exemptions:
- Electric Vehicles (EVs), two-wheelers, and CNG-powered vehicles are exempt from the tax.
- Vehicles registered within Uttarakhand and those providing essential services like ambulances, fire trucks, and emergency vehicles are also excluded.
Tax Collection and Technology
- The system will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to identify vehicles registered outside the state.
- The tax will be deducted seamlessly via the vehicle owner’s FASTag wallet for a hassle-free experience.
Green Tax Rates
- Three-wheelers: ₹20 per entry
- Four-wheelers: ₹40 per entry
