Horror in Sector 40-D
A Panjab University (PU) employee allegedly killed his 65-year-old mother at their home in Sector 40-D, Chandigarh, on Diwali morning. The accused, Ravinder Singh Negi (Ravi), 40, reportedly stabbed his mother 16 times with a kitchen knife, and she died instantly.
Neighbors Raise Alarm
Neighbor Akash Bains, who filed the complaint, said he was having tea when he heard loud screams from Ravinder’s house. He, along with other neighbors, tried the main door but found it locked from inside.
“We climbed through the terrace and saw Sushila lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Moments later, Ravinder came out, his clothes soaked in blood,” Akash said.
He immediately called the 112 helpline, and police reached the scene within minutes. They also recovered the knife used in the attack.
Accused Caught Within Hours
After the attack, Ravinder ran from the house. Police arrested him in Sonepat, Haryana, a few hours later. He has been sent to judicial custody at Model Jail, Burail.
Police filed a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sector 39 police station. They will also check Ravinder’s mental health during the investigation.
Troubled Past
Investigators said Sushila had been living with her younger son for several months. Her husband, Late Rajinder Singh Negi, had passed away years ago, and her elder son lives separately in Sector 41.
Ravinder’s wife and daughter left him six months ago due to his violent and unstable behavior. Police said he had been treated at mental health facilities before and often suffered fits and sudden outbursts.
Sushila had also sought help from priests and faith healers, hoping to calm her son’s aggressive behavior.
Argument Turns Deadly
On Diwali morning, Ravinder had a heated argument with his mother. In anger, he grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked her repeatedly. The assault was fatal before anyone could stop him.
Police continue to investigate the motive and Ravinder’s mental condition during the attack.
