Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the Indian community at the ‘Hala Modi’ event in Kuwait, where he expressed his joy at seeing the diversity of the people from India. He referred to the gathering as a “mini-Hindustan.”
PM Modi’s Warm Welcome in Kuwait
Upon his arrival, PM Modi shared his emotional connection with the people of Kuwait. He stated, “Just 2-2.5 hours ago, I arrived in Kuwait, and since setting foot here, I have felt an extraordinary sense of belonging and warmth all around. You all have come from various states of India, but seeing you here feels like a ‘Mini Hindustan’ has gathered before me.”
Historical India-Kuwait Relations
During his speech, PM Modi highlighted the long-standing historical ties between India and Kuwait. He recalled the robust trade relations between the two countries dating back to the 19th century. He said, “Our elders in Gujarat still recall how Kuwaiti traders learnt Gujarati, wrote books in it, and traded their world-famous pearls in our markets. We supplied horses and many other items. The relationship between India and Kuwait has always been strong and lasting.”
A Historic Visit: 43 Years in the Making
PM Modi also reflected on the significance of his visit, noting that it had been 43 years since an Indian Prime Minister visited Kuwait. “Today, personally, this moment is very special for me. After 43 years, more than four decades, a Prime Minister of India has come to Kuwait. For you all, coming to India takes just four hours, but for the PM, it took four decades.”
