A hardcore Maoist couple<\/strong> from Chhattisgarh, Unga Kalmu (25)<\/strong> and Mase Madvi (22)<\/strong>, surrendered to the Odisha police<\/strong> at the Kandhamal District Police Office (DPO) on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The couple had been part of the banned CPI (Maoist) Bansadhara-Ghumsar-Nagabali (BGN) division<\/strong>. They were tasked with reactivating the north-south corridor<\/strong> from Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh<\/strong> via south-central Odisha. They joined the group in 2018<\/strong> and were involved in several violent incidents<\/strong> across the region.<\/p>\n

Reasons Behind Their Surrender<\/h2>\n

Authorities stated that increased anti-Naxalite operations<\/strong> in Kandhamal, along with internal problems within the Maoist organization, prompted their decision. For instance<\/strong>, they cited:<\/p>\n

    Sexual harassment<\/strong> of female cadres<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Extortion and illegal cannabis cultivation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Rude and abusive behavior by senior leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Because of these issues, the couple chose to leave the path of violence<\/strong> and seek government-supported rehabilitation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Government Rehabilitation and Support<\/h2>\n

    The IGP, Southern Range Niti Shekhar<\/strong>, and Kandhamal SP Harish BC<\/strong> welcomed the surrender. They assured the couple of full rehabilitation under the state\u2019s scheme<\/strong>, which includes:<\/p>\n

      Homestead land allocation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Housing support<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Vocational training with monthly stipend<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Moreover<\/strong>, the IGP urged other Maoist cadres to renounce violence<\/strong> and return to mainstream society<\/strong>, stressing that anti-Maoist operations will be intensified<\/strong> in the coming months.<\/p>\n

      Arms Seized by Kandhamal Police<\/h2>\n

      On the same day, the District Voluntary Force (DVF), Kandhamal<\/strong> discovered a Maoist arms dump near Pangurmila village<\/strong> under Baliguda police limits.
