Pakistan has expressed strong displeasure after the Taliban officially backed India\u2019s sovereignty over Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)<\/strong>, escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan<\/strong> following recent border clashes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The controversy stems from a joint statement<\/strong> issued after a meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar<\/strong> and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi<\/strong>, in which both nations reaffirmed mutual respect for each other\u2019s territorial integrity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Taliban Supports India, Pakistan Objects<\/h2>\n

The joint statement explicitly recognized Jammu & Kashmir as part of India<\/strong>, prompting Pakistan to lodge a formal protest with Afghanistan<\/strong>. Islamabad claims the mention violates UN Security Council resolutions<\/strong> and undermines the legal status of J&K<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

New Delhi, however, stated that the statement reinforces India\u2019s position as a contiguous neighbor of Afghanistan<\/strong>, given the 106-km Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) border with Afghanistan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a neighbor and friend to the Afghan people, India has a deep interest in Afghanistan\u2019s development and stability,\u201d said Jaishankar<\/strong> during the meeting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Pakistan Summons Afghan Ambassador<\/h2>\n

Reacting to the joint statement, Pakistan summoned the Afghan ambassador<\/strong> to Islamabad, calling the mention of J&K \u201chighly insensitive<\/strong>.\u201d
President Asif Ali Zardari<\/strong> criticized the Taliban, saying they have ignored the aspirations of the Kashmiri people<\/strong> and committed injustice to history and the Muslim Ummah<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Muttaqi Warns Pakistan Amid Border Clashes<\/h2>\n

During a press conference at the Afghan Embassy<\/strong>, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi<\/strong> accused \u201ccertain elements\u201d in Pakistan of provoking conflicts along the border<\/strong>.
He warned that if Pakistan refuses peace<\/strong>, Afghanistan has other options to safeguard its national interest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Muttaqi clarified that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)<\/strong> no longer has a presence in Afghanistan and praised the peace-loving majority of Pakistanis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfghanistan will protect its borders and respond to aggression. We achieved our military objectives during the recent clashes and have temporarily paused operations,\u201d he said.
\u201cWe seek good relations and peace<\/strong>, but if Pakistan does not cooperate, Afghanistan has alternative measures available.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On TTP Allegations<\/h2>\n

Addressing Pakistan\u2019s claims that the Taliban shelters the TTP<\/strong>, Muttaqi said the 2,400-km border<\/strong> cannot be fully controlled by any force, past or present.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cStrength alone cannot maintain control. Pakistan has a larger army and better intelligence \u2014 they should handle internal problems instead of blaming Afghanistan,\u201d said Muttaqi.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
